U-17 soccer squad wins coveted tournament

The Mercer Island FC U-17 girls select Maroon soccer squad won the Premier Showcase 2 division of the PacNW Winter Classic, which was held from Jan 12-15 at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.

The Maroon team roster consisted of Elaina Martin, Catherine Yoshida, Annelise Rorem, Keathley Pinney-Brown, Claire Molina, Hannah Wainwright, Sarah Gest, Abby Berman, Ellie Sulla, Ella Hensey, Robin Henry, Lexi Shurygailo, Mari Hanan, Maia Malakoff, Naomi Lewis, Ella Veljovich, Hannah Derakshani and Stella Goffman. The team was coached my Tom Hill and Steve Gest. Martin scored a team-high nine goals throughout the duration of the tournament. Fourteen players on the Maroon roster also played for the Mercer Island girls soccer program this past fall.
