Over Memorial Day weekend, the Mercer Island select baseball 10U Thunder steam stormed through their competition to win the tournament. The team won five games and the championship.
A group of Mercer Island dads competed in Bellingham’s annual Ski to Sea race over Memorial Day weekend. The event features teams of racers in a relay that begins at the Mount Baker Ski area and ends in Bellingham Bay.
The Eastside FC girls 12U Blue team, which includes several players from Mercer Island, recently won the Silver Division of the Skagit River Cup.

The Mercer Island track and field team headed south last week to participate in the 3A state championship meet at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. The Islanders had six individuals competing in the meet after qualifying in the SeaKing district meet. Despite wild weather that included driving rain and high winds followed by patches of warm sun, the team competed well.
Both the Mercer Island girls and boys tennis teams won the 3A state titles Saturday during the 3A state tournament in the Tri Cities.
Both teams beat the second place team by one point. The girls earned 20 over Bainbridge, while the boys beat out Seattle Prep with 16 points.

After strong personal showings at the SeaKing district track meet on Friday afternoon, several members of the Mercer Island team will head to Tacoma this weekend for the 3A state competition.
With a 13 point gap separating the Mercer Island girls from second place Bainbridge, the Islanders ran away with Wednesday’s SeaKing district title at Lower Woodland Park. The Islanders 31 points was enough to take the district crown and propel the team toward another strong showing at state.
