Bicyclist opposed to re-striping 77th | Letter

As an Island bicyclist, I am opposed to the re-striping of 77th Avenue Southeast to provide additional parking spaces. This modification will remove the only designated bicycle lane through Town Center.

It will pose an increased risk to cyclists and discourage the use of bicycles at a time when we’re encouraging adults and children to ride more. Furthermore, we’re facing significantly increased Town Center traffic due to Sound Transit’s closure of the Bellevue Park and Ride and some Mercer Island freeway on-ramps. We need to maintain the designated bike lane on 77th Avenue Southeast.
