Vandals destroying Mercerdale Park garden | Letter

Twice some people have cut native plants to the ground, girdled native trees and pulled out new plants.

Many volunteers have been working to restore the native plant garden in Mercerdale Park. Invasive plants have been removed, woodchips spread and native plants planted this spring. However, twice now some people have cut existing native plants to the ground, girdled native trees and pulled out newly planted native plants.

Whoever is doing this is not only mean spirited, destroying many hours of hard work by volunteers, but is also a vandal and should be reported to the police. They are destroying hundreds of dollars worth of native plants. If you see or know of someone who had done this, please report it to Mercer Island police or at least tell them to stop.
