Mercer Island High School new student and freshmen fall barbecue is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the MIHS amphitheater commons. Students and their families are invited for an evening of fun, dinner and a tour of the school. Meet the principals and the class of 2009 advisers. Dinner is $5 per person.

Clubs

The ProBus Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S.E. The speaker will be John Nance who will address “The Humanization of American Business.” The public is welcome.

Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce will meet from noon to 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 8501 S. E. 40th Ave. The speaker is Ric Illgenfritz, CEO of Sound Transit, who will discuss Sound Transit’s current and future plans and projects that will affect Mercer Island. Boys & Girls Club

Galleries

Chamber Art Gallery photography show. Featured photographers: Derek Juhl, a graduate of Mercer Island High School and the University of Washington; and husband and wife team Ron Reeder, who has reinvented an old technology in printing his photos, and Judith Roan, who prefers black and white classic images. The show will run through September. The gallery is at the Chamber of Commerce, 7613 S.E. 27th St.

Maggie LeMoie, Jean Jack and Jim Jaime will be exhibiting their artwork at the Washington Mutual Building through October.

Helen Schwedenberg, Dave Tracy and Don Stewart will exhibit their artwork at Island House, 7810 S.E. 30th St., to Nov. 15.
