On stage

Check out the drama “The Sea Horse,” by Edward J. Moore. The Island Players theatrical troupe performs this somewhat tragic story of a tavern owner married to an abusive husband. Islander and director Irv Zimmer is no stranger to the stage. He has plays such as “Our Town,” “The Odd Couple,” “The King and I” and “The Misanthrope” under his belt. Calling all who are searching for love: The Mercer High Times wants to continue its “Blind Date” tradition again this year by finding willing participants to go on a blind date sometime in the next few weeks. Anatomically local

“Grey’s Anatomy,” a new hospital drama set in Seattle will air Monday nights at 10 p.m. on KOMO in the near future. In this drama, Mercer Island will be represented in the setting and background shots. Four Youth Theatre Northwest production posters, from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Stuart Little,” “You can’t take it with you” and “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse,” can ge seen by sharp-eyed viewers.

Moms helping moms

The Women’s Endowment Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, awarded a grant of $4,000 to the Stroum Jewish Community Center (JCC) and its community partners to help fund the JCC Parenting Center’s Mom2Mom Program for another year. The program supports new mothers during the critical first months after the baby arrives, through personal contact with a volunteer “mentor mom.”

The good neighbor

TransNation Title Company, on Mercer Island, was recently nominated for Spirit of Caring’s “best new campaign” award. Spirit of Caring Awards honor individuals and companies that show an outstanding commitment to make the community a better place. Award presentations begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at Qwest Field’s West Club Lounge, 800 Occidental Ave. S.
