Big volleyball tournament this weekend at Aubrey Davis park

Habitat for Humanity hosting 40-plus teams at volleyball tourney at courts on the lid park this Saturday

Aubrey Davis Park fields will be the venue for a volleyball tournament this weekend to raise money for Habitat for Humanity King County.

Players from the Habitat Young Professionals and Side-Out Seattle will play at one of the largest 4’s volleyball tournaments in the region. They will be joined by 40 teams of four players each of all skill levels on 15 courts. The tournament will consist of a pool play in the morning with AA/A (Advanced) and BB/B (Intermediate) teams (co-ed teams of 4) to determine the match-ups for the double-elimination tournament in the afternoon.

For spectators or those who wish to play volleyball but not compete, there will be two nets available for free play. Adding to the day’s festivities are live music and food trucks arriving in the afternoon.

In between the pool play and the double-elimination rounds, two families who have received homes from Habitat for Humanity will speak about how Habitat has changed their lives.

There will also be non-competitive “free play” and live music beginning at 1 p.m. The event begins at 9 a.m, Saturday, August 24, at the Park on the Lid, Aubrey Davis Park fields. Food trucks arrive at 3 p.m. and stay until 5 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go to Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County’s Westway Neighborhood Stabilization Project in Federal Way, where HYP volunteers have been working on Habitat homes since 2012. For information, go to http://www.habitatskc.org/.
