The Mercer Island business scene continues to change in the new year. A new health clinic and junk-hauling service have come to Mercer Island, interior design firm Six Walls has moved locations, and a children’s mini-spa is now part of Cindy’s Salon.

Qliance, located on S.E. 27th Street, opened on Monday, Jan. 11. The medical clinic is a flat-fee, or insurance-free, direct primary care provider offering hospital and specialist care coordination along with same or next-day appointments.

“I was approached about this type of health care model when it came before the 2007 Legislature and was a strong supporter. It is great to see the arrival of a new option for quality care and more choice in our community,” said state rep. Judy Clibborn of Mercer Island. Monthly patient fees are between $39 and $129. Qliance Medical Management Inc. was established in 2006 and also has clinics in downtown Seattle and Kent. An open house at the Mercer Island clinic will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16.

We Take Junk, owned by Mercer Island resident Nilda Rublica, hauls away unwanted items ranging from appliances, furniture, yard waste and electronics to heavy items common at construction sites. Pricing is by load size plus the fee for dumping. The company also recycles items and donates reusable goods. Located at 7237 S.E. 27th St., We Take Junk services both residences and businesses.

Six Walls, a Mercer Island business since 2005, has moved from S.E. 27th Street to 2630 77th Ave. S.E., Suite 102, due to the expiration of its lease and the need to downsize. The interior design firm reopened its doors after receiving its certificate of occupancy on Jan. 7.

Cindy’s Salon, in its 12th year on Mercer Island, has a new mini-spa for children, called Kidz Korner — offering mini-manicures and pedicures. Owner Cindy Le gives out free nail polish for each visit: “This way, they can do touch-ups if they need to. Mostly, we want them to have something fun to remember their experience at our salon,” she said. “We want this to be a special experience different from anything else available on the Island.”
