City Council recognizes 2009 Eagle Scouts

The City Council recognized five Mercer Island Eagle Scouts at its Nov. 16 meeting, honoring them for their accomplishments. The Eagle Scouts are: Carl Garrett, Troop 457; Kyle Weiss, Troop 647; Matthew Townsend, Troop 647; Nick Skouras, Troop 457; and Cole Johnson, Troop 457.

Saul Tilden, John Paul Bruckner, and Chris Wales, also of Troop 457, were not in attendance on Monday night but also earned the rank of Eagle Scout this past year.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America program. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating “scout spirit,” service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge.
