I am very happy to hear that CPR was used successfully at the IMS track, and that Mr. Williams is doing well. He knows how lucky he was to have CPR-trained people nearby.

For those who would like to be trained, the firefighters teach CPR with AED (Automatic Electronic Defibrillator) about once a month. In the school district, we teach CPR and AED usage to students at IMS and the high school in health classes. We also teach staff members. American Heart Association certification cards are available for those who complete and pass the course.

Thanks to the Gilbert Wong family, the MI Rotary Club and two PTSAs, we have AEDs in all of our schools except Crest. There is also an AED in the administration building. Along with CPR, an AED was used for a gentleman who had a heart attack at MIHS during the presidential primaries meeting.

My hope is to raise enough money this year to get an AED for Crest, which could then be close enough to the bus drivers’ office for their use, also. AEDs cost approximately $3,000 each.

Meanwhile, we will keep teaching students and staff how to do CPR and use an AED, and then know that there are more folks who can save lives out there in the world.
