Expect delays on Island Crest Way at S.E. 60th this weekend

A section of the Island's main arterial will be closed at Island Crest Park this weekend.

A section of the Island’s main arterial will be closed at Island Crest Park this weekend. A Verizon Wireless contractor will be installing a large underground vault on the west side of Island Crest Way, next to Island Crest Park, near S.E. 60th Street.

A large crane will move the sections of the vault into position, and it will partially block Island Crest Way during the construction. The west side of Island Crest at that location will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1-2. North and southbound traffic will alternately use the east side of Island Crest. Flaggers will help to regulate traffic.

This construction was scheduled for this weekend to avoid affecting commuter and school traffic during the week, according to the City of Mercer Island. Drivers will be able to travel north and south on Island Crest Way, but should be prepared for delays caused by the lane closure.

Electronic message signs have been placed on Island Crest temporarily to forewarn drivers of the closure.
