Five cars were prowled a block north of Proctor Landing overnight.

Five cars were prowled a block north of Proctor Landing overnight on Dec. 2. A handgun with two loaded magazines was stolen out of a Ford truck, along with other items, in the 3000 block of 61st Avenue S.E. The 53-year-old victim said the vehicle had been locked, but a forced entry was not evident.

In the 5900 block of S.E. 30th Street, an iPhone worth $200 was stolen out of an unlocked Audi, parked in an open, private area. In the same block, three additional vehicles, including a Ford and Audi, were prowled. One vehicle was inside the victim’s open garage and the others were parked in the driveway. A knife was stolen, but no other items were missing.

By the numbers: November

The Mercer Island Police Department made 17 arrests and responded to 969 total calls for service in November. There were three assaults, six burglaries and 18 thefts. Eleven total traffic accidents included three injuries, and there were two hit-and-runs, one pedestrian/vehicle accident, one DUI accident, four DUI arrests, 185 traffic infractions and 252 total citations including 45 parking tickets.

Nov. 27

Fraud: A 28-year-old former employee of a business in the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street placed 44 separate unauthorized charges on the company’s credit card. The suspect made personal purchases and paid her personal cable and cell phone bills. The fraudulent charges totaled $3,167.57 between Nov. 5 and Nov. 23.

Nov. 28

Car prowl: The driver’s door of a Lincoln-Continental was tampered with in the public parking garage behind Mo’s Pizza in the 2600 block of 77th Avenue S.E. The victim, a 23-year-old man, had been inside Mo’s Pizza between 1:45 and 3 p.m. The handle and lock of his vehicle door were damaged, but the car was not entered. Fingerprints were lifted for evidence.

Arrest: A police officer arrested a 40-year-old man at 11:40 p.m. in the 8000 block of S.E. 28th Street after stopping his pickup truck for expired tabs and the registered owner’s suspended license. The officer found a handgun on the floorboard and the driver claimed it was an airsoft. A narcotics pipe was next to the gun, underneath the driver’s seat. The pipe had been used with heroin. The truck was impounded.

Dec. 1

Drugs: A 48-year-old woman ordered a fraudulent prescription via phone, for a nonexistent person, from the Rite Aid pharmacy in the 3000 block of 78th Avenue S.E. The woman pretended to be a nurse on staff. A pharmacist called police when the suspect came to pick up the prescription. The suspect, a Seattle resident, was released after being processed.

Dec. 3

Trespass: North QFC employees reported a 22-year-old suspect to police at 1 a.m. The suspect had been trespassed from the QFC. He was arrested on an outstanding Bellevue warrant a few blocks from the QFC and was served new trespass papers along with a criminal trespass citation.

Theft: A 34-year-old woman’s purse was stolen out of a classroom at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church at 3605 84th Ave. S.E. sometime between 4:30 and 7 p.m. The purse contained a Coach wallet, driver’s license, debit card and check book.

Found keys: A key ring with miscellaneous keys and a broken vehicle remote found at a Mercer Island park was turned in at the Kirkland Police Department and transferred to the MIPD.

Dec. 4

Accident: A Mercedes rear-ended a Jeep at 9:32 a.m. in the 3400 block of Island Crest Way. The Mercedes driver, 42, said that she saw the Jeep stopped for traffic, but she could not stop in time because her brakes were not “operating properly,” according to the case report.

Fender-bender: A Mercer Island woman, 57, reported that a vehicle backed into her Chevrolet SUV at 3:58 p.m. in the Island Corporate Center parking lot at 7525 S.E. 24th Street. The victim had been talking on her cell phone while parked. She spoke to the other driver, who denied the collision and left the scene. The victim reported back pain.

Ladder theft: Someone stole a folding metal ladder, worth $250, outside of a 73-year-old man’s residence in the 7600 block of East Mercer Way, near Clarke Beach, between 7:30 a.m. and 9:50 p.m.

Dec. 5

Fraud: A 39-year-old North end woman reported a subject who used her Social Security number for financial fraud between November 2011 and September 2012.

Theft: A city employee saw someone steal a leaf blower, worth $500, out of the back of a city vehicle at 8:40 a.m. in the 5300 block of Island Crest Way. One other witness was present. Some suspect information is available.
