Girls water polo cruises past Inglemoor

The Mercer Island girls water polo team evened its season record Monday, March 24 with a win over Inglemoor, beating the Vikings 13-5 at Mary Wayte Pool. The Islanders improved to 2-2. Mallory Phillips led the Islanders with 4 goals, while Alicia Nordal had 3 goals and Michelle Na and Kirbi Phillips each scored twice. In the net, Davis Simmons had 7 saves for Mercer Island. Next, the Islanders will travel to Shorewood High School to take on the Thunderbirds at 3 p.m. Friday, March 28.

Girls tennis beats Skyline

Islanders tennis earned its third win of the season, beating Skyline 6-1 Monday at Skyline High School. Sammamish’s Theresa Huang won over Lydia Venditti 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8), while Mercer Island’s Gabby Venditti defeated Sherry Huang 6-0, 6-0. Sammy Sweet beat Hilary Taylor 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4), and Jamie Mounger won over Tarika Sinakurnar  6-1, 6-4. In doubles action, Caroline Dillon and Caroline Hamilton defeated Julie Lioubarski and Jasmine Ye 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4). Melanie Lee and Miji Suhr beat Kourtney Kirtou and Avery Sampsen 6-0, 6-1, and Fiona Brasfield and Catherine Seifert beat Rianna Eduljee and Ali Grazier 6-1, 7-5. Mercer Island will take on Sammamish at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 at Sammamish High School.
