The Rock family hosted a lakeside fundraiser for King County executive candidate Larry Phillips at their home on East Mercer Way last Saturday, July 11. Phillips is one of several politicians running a tight primary race for King County executive. Saturday’s event was organized by Young Leaders for Larry (YLL), a group of supporters led by Phillips’ son, Brett Phillips.

Mercer Island High School graduate Greg Rock, a member of YLL, hosted the lakeside party. The weather was perfect for swimming and boating, socializing in the sun and catching up on local politics.

Rock met Larry Phillips two years ago while working with The Green Car Company. At the time, councilman Larry Phillips was pushing for light rail and green cars. Rock, who co-founded the company in 2004, invited him to drive the first commercial Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in Washington state. Since that pilot project with King County, the Green Car Company has converted over 100 Prius cars to PHEVs.

Larry Phillips made a guest appearance at the East Mercer event. Addressing the group of young voters, he focused on the future. The King County executive candidate said his primary focus is to revitalize the local economy and keep taxes down during this recession. As a member of the Sound Transit board, he is committed to alternative modes of transportation and other environmental issues.
