Mercer Island girls basketball opened its season with a 60-44 win over Seattle Prep Wednesday night at Seattle Prep.
The Islanders were on fire from deep, knocking down 12 of their 19 3-point shots. Julia Blumenstein led Mercer Island in scoring with 20 points, while shooting 6-9 from beyond the arc. Jess Blakeslee contributed 16 points while grabbing nine rebounds.
Mercer Island will have its home opener Friday night, taking on Issaquah at 7:30 p.m. at Mercer Island High School.
