Students from KMIH 88.9 The Bridge, Mercer Island High School’s award-winning radio station, have once again earned national recognition for excellence in broadcasting at the prestigious John Drury High School Radio Awards, hosted by North Central College and WONC 89.1 FM in Naperville, Illinois.
KMIH was honored for Best Website, a recognition that highlights the station’s growing digital presence and commitment to innovation. The website, KMIH.org, showcases student-produced content, station updates and community programming. Sophia Loiselle led last year’s website, and current website director Aadyaa Singal guides this year’s efforts under the mentorship of MIHS broadcast media teacher Lauren Schechter.
KMIH also earned top honors for Best Public Affairs Program with an interview by MIHS class of 2025 alum, Marley MacDonald, featuring Amanda Knox, the Seattle resident who gained national attention after being wrongfully accused of a 2007 murder in Italy.
In addition, 88.9 The Bridge received third place in the category of Specialty Music Program for a broadcast celebrating Women’s History Month, produced by current senior and KMIH music director Brooke Newell, alongside class of 2025 alums Hadley Hotzclaw, Sam Paddor and Toly Odievich.
“These awards represent the creativity, curiosity and professionalism our students bring to their work every day,” said MIHS media broadcasting adviser Natalie Woods. “Our students are telling important stories, building platforms that connect our community, and creating innovative programming that serves our community and beyond.”
