Theft

A bicycle was stolen from the porch of a Mercer Island residence in the 6100 block of 93rd Avenue S.E. sometime between 6 p.m., June 11, and 10 a.m., June 12. The loss totals $1,518.

A Mercer Island man reported that his lawn and weed trimmer was stolen from his residence in the 5200 block of 90th Avenue S.E. sometime between June 6 and June 13.

A Macbook laptop was stolen from an unlocked office at Crest Learning Center on 86th Avenue S.E. sometime between 4:30 and 7 p.m. on June 10. The total loss is $1,213.

A Mercer Island woman notified police that a garden hose was attached to a city fire hydrant in the 3800 block of 83rd Avenue S.E. around 10:30 p.m. on June 14. Mercer Island firefighters found that the hose led to the home of an 80-year-old man, who could not be contacted. The hose was stretched across two lawns and under a fence, likely to a backyard swimming pool, according to the police report.

A Mazda belonging to a Mercer Island man was stolen from an apartment complex in the 2500 block of 81st Avenue S.E. sometime during the evening of June 17. The owner was not missing the keys, and there was no evidence of broken glass. The vehicle was recovered from the south Luther Burbank parking lot on June 18 and returned to the owner. Fingerprints were lifted.

Car prowls

A California woman’s car was prowled in the 5500 block of Island Crest Way sometime between 7 and 8 p.m. on June 3. A cell phone, credit and debit cards and Canon Powershot camera were stolen from the vehicle, which had been left unlocked.

Two Mercer Island residents reported witnessing car prowls in the 3000 block of 80th Avenue S.E. around 5 a.m. on June 4. According to the police report, police contacted two male suspects, ages 17 and 19, who had marijuana in their possession among other items of evidence, including a metal crowbar, razor box cutter, video games and backpack.

A 39-year-old Mercer Island man notified police that two items, a wallet and lock-box electronic key, were stolen from his unlocked vehicle in the 3000 block of 61st Avenue S.E. sometime between 6:30 p.m. on June 14 and 8:30 a.m., June 15. The wallet contained debit and credit cards.

A 31-year-old Mercer Island man reported that an iPod and real estate documents were stolen from his unlocked vehicle in the 2400 block of 62nd Avenue S.E. during the night of June 14.

A 20-year-old Mercer Island man’s car was prowled in the 7200 block of S.E. 29th Street during the night of June 16. He found the driver’s door open, and $1 had been stolen. CDs were kept as evidence for fingerprints.

Mischief

A 38-year-old Mercer Island woman reported that a glass French door in her home was broken sometime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 11 in the 5900 block of S.E. 20th Street. A neighbor’s window had also been shattered during the same week. The damage likely resulted from a BB gun or slingshot, according to the police report.

Graffiti was sprayed in the bathrooms at Homestead Park in the 8100 block of S.E. 40th Street sometime between June 5 and June 8. Graffiti of a similar pattern was also found at West Mercer Elementary.

Three juvenile males were contacted for painting half of a fence at Roanoke Landing in the 1600 block of Roanoke Way during the night of June 8. According to the police report, one male had a rolling paint brush in hand and told police that “he was doing a self project of freshening up the park” but admitted that such activity was likely illegal.

A 62-year-old male reported damage to his willow tree in the 5000 block of Butterworth Road during the night of June 8. Bark had been chopped off from two sides of the tree, totaling $500 in damage.

A 12-year-old girl reported seeing a teenager cause a fire in the 8200 block of 84th Avenue S.E., around 3 p.m. on June 13, after he tossed a burning glass bottle into the road. He was accompanied by a group of teens who ran away from the scene, where the damage was minor.

Accidents

A collision occurred in the parking lot of the Shell station at 7833 S.E. 28th St. at 5 p.m. on June 3 when a Dodge vehicle backed into another car that was turning into the lot. The driver did not see the other car behind him as he was backing up.

A vehicle rear-ended a Lexus while driving westbound in the 9000 block of West Shorewood Drive around 6 p.m. on June 9. The driver of the Lexus had slowed down for a speed bump. Police found scrapes on the front bumper of the other car and paint that had been transferred from the Lexus.

Fraud

A 40-year-old Mercer Island man reported unauthorized withdrawals on his KeyBank checking account, totaling $42,000, between Feb. 19 and June 11.

A 73-year-old Mercer Island woman notified police that her debit card, which was missing, had been used to take cash from her bank account.

Illegal dumping

A Mercer Island woman notified police of yard waste and a tire dumped along the roadside in the 8500 block of West Mercer Way, at the East Mercer Way intersection, during the morning of June 12.

An Everett man witnessed three males dump construction waste into a private dumpster on Walgreens’ property in the 7700 block of S.E. 27th Street sometime after 7 a.m. on June 16. One suspect, a Burien man, was identified through a vehicle license plate number.

Arrests

Mercer Island police arrested a 32-year-old Bellevue man in the 7600 block of westbound I-90 on Mercer Island around 1 p.m. on June 4 after police found that his license tabs had expired in 2007 and he was driving with a suspended license. He was also cited for the offense of failing to obey police, according to the report, as police followed him for 2.5 miles before he stopped. He was also in possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He was booked into the King County Jail.

A 34-year-old Kent woman was arrested for stealing $70 worth of items from the Mercer Island Thrift Store at 7710 S.E. 34th St. between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. on June 9.

A 20-year-old Seattle man lied about his name to police, who identified him through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System, when he was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the 5700 block of 80th Avenue S.E. during the evening on June 11.

A Renton man was arrested in the 7400 block of S.E. 24th Street around 1 a.m. on June 13, after a traffic stop, for driving with a suspended license. He had also disregarded a no-contact order. He was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

An 18-year-old Mercer Island male in possession of marijuana was arrested in the 7600 block of North Mercer Way around 10 p.m. on June 13 after a traffic violation stop. He was released after being processed at the MIPD.

A Redmond woman’s vehicle was impounded after police arrested her for driving with a suspended license in the 8500 block of S.E. 40th Street after an equipment violations stop between 2:30 and 3:30 a.m. on June 14. She was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Missing

A Mercer Island man notified police on June 12 that his 18-year-old son had been missing since June 8. His son had not been at work for five days.
