Mercer Island sixth at Cardinal Classic | Prep wrestling

The Mercer Island wrestling team took home a sixth-place finish at the 42nd annual Cardinal Classic wrestling tournament Saturday, Jan. 2 at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma.

The Mercer Island wrestling team took home a sixth-place finish at the 42nd annual Cardinal Classic wrestling tournament Saturday, Jan. 2 at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma.

The Islanders had nine individual wrestlers place at the tournament, and four reach their bracket’s final round. Senior Nic Meinzinger-Richards won the 170 class, while Jordan Tillinger (106), Jonah Andrews (138) and Russell Asmus (195) were all runners-up in their divisions.

Finn Childress (160) and Dylan Majewski (220) each placed fourth, Eli Pruchno (113) and Piljin Kwak (138) both were fifth-place finishers, and Connor Hill was sixth in the 182 class.

Next, Mercer Island takes on Bellevue at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7 at MIHS.
