Mercer Island soccer players help team to finals at tournament in Denmark

Three Mercer Island eighth grade soccer players recently helped their team advance to the finals during a tournament in Denmark.

Three Mercer Island eighth grade soccer players recently helped their team advance to the finals during a tournament in Denmark.

Jennifer Bernardez, Paige Robertson and Jocelyn Thomson are members of the Benson soccer team, which traveled to Denmark to play in the Gothia Cup. The Gothia Cup is the largest youth soccer tournament in the world, with over 35,000 players competing from 75 countries.

On their way to the finals, the team beat others team from Norway, Denmark and the U.S. Throughout the tournament, they gave up zero goals and lost in the championship game that went to penalty kicks. The winning team was from California.

The Benson soccer team includes girls from throughout Washington.
