Douglas David DiJulio II was awarded a Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from the Department of Physics at Lund University in Sweden on Feb. 15. The graduate is the son of Regina and Douglas DiJulio, of Mercer Island.
He is a graduate of the Mercer Island High School class of 2001. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics at the University of Washington and a Master’s of Science in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University. He completed his postgraduate research in the Nuclear Structure group at Lund University.
The title of his doctoral dissertation is “Probing single-particle and collective states in atomic nuclei with Coulomb excitation.”
He is currently employed at the “European Spallation Source” located in Lund, Sweden, as a post doctoral research scientist in Neutron Optics.
The European Spallation Source is being built by a partnership of 17 European nations and will be the world’s leading research facility using neutrons.
