Mercer Island High School will be hosting a general advisory meeting for the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department on Wednesday, Feb. 17, to gauge the interest of local professionals in helping students at the school

The meeting will take place on Wednesday in the MIHS library at 5:30 p.m. Food will be served.

According to Assistant Principal Mark Roschy, the school has just completed a review of its CTE program. One result has been to give a CT designation to many more classes in order to offer students more ways to meet their CT graduation requirement and to explore career choices.

The school is now looking for community members involved in these fields to consider bringing their expertise to students in the classroom.

The department’s goal is to give up-to-date information to students and give new perspectives on various careers, which helps students make important decisions about colleges and possible life and work choices.

“Speakers who talk in MIHS CTE classes give students a totally different perspective, enhancing their perspective and knowledge,” Roschy said.

CTE classes at the high school now include: accounting, economics, engineering, computer programming, entrepreneurship, business, law, marketing, health, sciences, child development, counseling, horticulture, journalism and publications, metals and jewelry design, radio and television broadcasting, communications, small gas engines, Web multimedia, graphic design and photography.
