MIPD follows stolen car to Seattle | Police Blotter

The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Nov. 19

PROWLING: A victim reported at 2:49 p.m. in the 27000 block of 76th Ave. SE that her vehicle was unlawfully entered by force and her ignition was “punched,” but nothing was taken.

THEFT: A bicycle was reported stolen from a rack in the Island Square parking garage at 3:43 p.m.

Nov. 20

THEFT: A subject took a package from a front porch in the 8800 block of SE 37th St. at 9:34 a.m.

FRAUD: A victim in the 2400 block of 76th Ave. SE said at 3:33 p.m. that their credit card was compromised and unauthorized charges were made, for a loss of $1,600.

DUI: A driver was stopped for an equipment violation at 11:31 p.m. in the 3900 block of Island Crest Way. They were under the age of 21 and arrested for DUI. Nov. 21

THEFT: A woman shoplifted a bottle of perfume from the Thrift Shop at 1:16 p.m.

Nov. 22

FRAUD: A victim in the 5000 block of 90th Ave. SE said at 12:03 p.m. that two different credit cards were attempted to be opened in his name without authorization. Both were denied.

BURGLARY: A TV and camera equipment were taken after a residential burglary in the 8700 block of SE 45th St. at 1:21 p.m. The burglar forced entry via a window.

Nov. 23

FOUND PROPERTY: A child’s bike was found in the 3200 block of 78th Ave. SE at 9:12 a.m.

PROWLING: A bag containing bike shoes, a gel bike seat and a pair of bike pants were stolen after a car prowl in the 7600 block of SE 27th St. at 12:01 p.m. The passenger front window had been broken.

LOST PROPERTY: At 1:47 p.m., a man reported that he had left his wallet on top of a shopping cart, which was placed back into the cart storage area in the 8400 block of SE 68th St. Per the store’s surveillance video, the cart was grabbed by an oblivious patron, who shopped with the wallet on top of the cart and walked out of the store without ever touching or acknowledging the wallet.

Nov. 25

FRAUD: A credit card was opened in the name of a victim in the 9700 block of SE 40th St. at 10:35 a.m. Police had potential suspect information.

MORE PROWLING: A victim’s vehicle was unlawfully entered by force in the 2000 block of 84th Ave.SE at 2:50 p.m., and their wallet and other items were taken. Their cards were used at locations in Mercer Island.

Nov. 28

STOLEN CAR: At 1:51 a.m., Mercer Island police followed a vehicle, which the Washington State Department of Licensing showed had been stolen less than 12 hours before, to Seattle and down a dead end street. They initiated a traffic stop and the driver hit reverse and fled southbound on Rainier Avenue, at which point he wasn’t seen again.

THEFT: Someone stole Christmas ornaments from an Islander’s front yard in the 8000 block of SE 45th St. at 3:27 p.m.

Nov. 30

DUI: A vehicle almost side swiped another vehicle in the 8600 block of westbound I-90 at 12:12 a.m. The driver admitted probably drinking too much, but refused field sobriety tests. They were arrested for DUI and produced blood alcohol content results of 0.169 and 0.172.
