MIHS mock trial club raises money at Primaries

Last Tuesday, members of the Mercer Island High School mock trial club worked at the high-school polling center for the primary election. Their effort was part of King County Election’s Partnership in Democracy program, created to recruit quality poll workers and benefit local organizations.

The MI students earned $150 for their work. All of the money will go toward funding club operations. In order to work the polls, the students underwent three hours of training, during which they learned how to open a polling place, distribute ballots and ensure the process of voting is private and secure.

Air traffic to increase temporarily

Air traffic from the Renton airport and the accompanying noise overhead will increase over the next couple of days due to FAA testing of navigation equipment. The testing will mean that there will be a possible temporary increase in low-level flights near the airport.

These tests are FAA mandated and will be used to certify changes in published approaches to the airport.

For more information or to report noise, go to www.rentonwa.gov.
