On Wednesday July 4, 2007, at approximately 8:16pm, a Mercer Island Police Officer was driving his patrol car when he was involved in a vehicle/pedestrian accident at the intersection of Island Crest Way and North Mercer Way on Mercer Island.
In a highly unusual move, Mayor Bryan Cairns, served a legal notice to Councilmember Sven Goldmanis last month during a Mercer Island City Council meeting. Superintendent Cyndy Simms revealed the number of students accepted for 2007 open enrollment during the Mercer Island School Board’s year-end meeting last week. The special enrollment policy, which lets a set number of children from off the Island attend district schools, was approved as a means to counter the current decline in students (a drop of nearly 100 in two years).
