The Mercer Island School Board is discussing the reorganization of its summer school program, which has incurred thousands of dollars in debt over the past few years. According to interim Associate Superintendent of Instructional Services, Kathy Morrison, the district could benefit from revamping its summer school curriculum.

Mercer Island High School Athletic Director Craig Olson presented the School Board with a memorandum clarifying a number of misunderstandings and “incorrect facts” in the district’s interim Title IX report. The review was conducted by Linda Mangle, an outside consultant with the Equity Education Group hired by the school district in September.

Mauldin leaves after long service to city
In response to national warnings that a California-based slaughterhouse had violated USDA regulations, the Mercer Island School District has restricted its use of meat products. On Feb. 1, MISD Food Service Director Cameron Danby received word from the Office of the State Superintendent of Public Schools (OSPI) that the Westland/Hallmark packing company was being investigated for slaughtering “weak cattle,” which violates USDA code. The district receives a small portion of Westland/Hallmark raw meat through its local beef processor, King’s Command.
