    Police arrested a 29-year-old man in town on Mother’s Day for possessing five bags of marijuana and two glass pipes outside Albertson’s around 12:18 a.m., May 9. According to the police report, someone called the police after the man began talking about his guns, which he did not have. Police also confiscated a six-pack of beer.

    Auer named to ‘Heroes of Emergency Medicine’

    Nancy Auer majored in English and went on to become a teacher and secretary before entering the medical field. Now, she is an emergency physician and the chief medical officer at Swedish Hospital with a 32-year career in medicine. This month, Auer was named to the “Heroes of Emergency Medicine” of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) for her work as an emergency doctor.

    As if its ambitious marching band, musical excellence, Island-wide popularity, and sheer size weren’t enough, the Mercer Island High School band can now add international acclaim to its list of accomplishments. Traveling is nothing new for this band; In 2006, it was the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif., and last year it was the Monday Night Football half-time show at Qwest Stadium and a band exchange with Pasco High School in the Tri-Cities. This year, however, the band ventured far outside of the boundaries of the lower 48. This year, it was China.
