Vandalism

Several letters from Northwest Yeshiva High School’s sign, located in the 5000 block of 90th Avenue S.E., were pried off during the night of Aug. 4.

A car parked in the 4000 block of 84th Avenue S.E. was vandalized during the night of Aug. 3. According to the police report, eggs had been thrown at the car and a pentagon-shaped hole was left in the rear bumper.

Graffiti was spray-painted in the men’s restroom of Island Crest Park, the night of Aug. 4.

Stencil graffiti mentioning Tent City was also found sprayed in the Town Center on the sidewalks and roadway adjacent to McDonald’s and on the windows of Hollywood Video on the afternoon of Aug. 5, the day when the camp moved onto Mercer Island.

The basketball court walls and the exhaust stacks at Lid Park were also spray-painted with graffiti on the night of Aug. 2.

A rock was thrown through a window of a car parked in the 2400 block of S.E. 60th Street, the night of Aug. 2, although nothing was missing or stolen.

Arrests

A 51-year-old man was arrested and a firearm was confiscated from his home in the 4400 block of West Mercer Way after he pushed his younger sister twice and threatened to shoot her around 1 p.m. on Aug. 1.

A 17-year-old Islander was caught stealing a wallet out of a woman’s purse in the 3000 block of 78th Avenue S.E. around 4 p.m. on Aug. 5, and the teen was later arrested by police after the victim confronted him and got her wallet back. According to the police report, another teen, who witnessed the theft, identified the young man for police and the suspect confessed.

Two Mercer Island teenagers were arrested after they were caught lighting a fire near the portables at Lakeridge Elementary around 2:40 p.m. on July 31. According to the police report, a 13 and 14-year-old boy were caught by a janitor lighting pieces of paper on fire and dropping them on the grass, which lit on fire and spread toward the portables. The janitor detained the youths and called police, who later released the boys to their parents.

A 49-year-old Burien man was arrested for driving without an installed ignition interlock device — to prevent drunk driving — and for driving with a suspended license in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street around 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 4.

A 29-year-old man from Seattle was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled him over in the 3700 block of West Mercer Way around 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 3.

Burglary

A home in the 4800 block of East Mercer Way was burglarized on the morning of Aug. 5. According to the police report, the victim came home to his house around 12:30 p.m. and found his front door open and his HD TV and digital camera missing.

Car prowl

A wallet, iPod and two DVDs were stolen from a car parked on Wembly Lane during the night of Aug. 5. According to the police report, a large rock was used to smash the driver’s side window. In another incident that occurred on Wembley Lane that evening, an unlocked car was entered and prowled, but nothing was missing.

Two purses containing cash, credit and debit cards, keys, cosmetics and sunglasses were stolen from a car parked in the 1600 block of Roanoke Way between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 3.
