BURGLARY: A Mercer Island woman in the 9700 block of S.E. 41st St. left home at 10 a.m. When she came around 7 p.m., she found her basement door ajar and the deadbolt broken. Several rooms had been ransacked and more than $9,000 of belongings were missing. Among the items stolen were pieces of antique gold and diamond jewelry, an Apple Macbook Pro, a Toshiba camera and an Apple iMac computer.

CAR PROWL: An Island woman left her purse in the car when she parked in the St. Lutheran parking lot. When she returned, the rear passenger window was broken out and her purse was missing. Four credit cards and $150 in cash were missing.

MONDAY | 21

THEFT: An Island woman in the 2900 block of 76th Ave. S.E. reported $9,000 worth of jewelry stolen from her unit — a diamond ring, one-carat stud earrings and a 14-inch platinum chain with a diamond pendant heart.

FRAUD: A 46-year-old Island man reported $9,600 of unauthorized charges on his credit card, spent largely on food and fuel, many dating back to December.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS: Just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday a boxer dog was off leash and attacked another dog that was tethered in its own backyard. During contact with the dog’s owner, it lunged at two police officers, tearing one of the officer’s pants and leaving bruises and bite marks on his leg. The report was forward to King County Animal Control. (See page 3 for full story).

THURSDAY | 17

DUI: A 45-year-old Mercer Island woman was found asleep at the wheel of her car in the middle of the road. She woke up and drove her vehicle to the side of the road, activating her emergency lights. When a patrol officer arrived 20 minutes later, he noticed a heavy odor of alcohol coming from her car. She was arrested, processed and booked into SCORE Jail with a BAC of 0.221.

FRIDAY | 18

MENTAL: A 40-year-old man from Albany, New York called 9-1-1 to say that he was having thoughts about jumping off the overpass. Officers contacted the subject in the 9200 block of N. Mercer Way and transported him to Evergreen Hospital for an evaluation.

INFORMATIONAL REPORT: A Bellevue man and the store manager at the North-end QFC believed that he had seen a black man in his 30s with a medium build steal several bottles of liquor. He did not see the man stash any bottles in his backpack but when he confronted the subject, he ran out of the store and quickly got into a waiting vehicle in the 2800 block of 80th Ave. S.E. The store manager was not able to review any video footage or to check the inventory.

FRAUD: Someone used a 68-year-old Mercer Island woman’s personal information to file a fraudulent tax return. She had no known connection to the Seattle Archdiocese.

BURGLARY: Sometime between noon on Apr. 14 and 10 a.m. on Apr. 17, a small window in the garage of a house in the 2200 block of 80th Ave. S.E. was broken. Somebody tried to gain access to the house through the garage, but didn’t succeed. Nothing was taken from the residence. Police photographed footprints at the scene and several pry marks.

FRAUD: An Island woman and her husband had fraudulent tax returns filed in their names. Both had volunteered at St. Monica’s and believed it had to do with the Seattle Archdiocese incidents.

SATURDAY | 19

INFORMATIONAL REPORT: An unoccupied Ford Ranger, identified as a stolen vehicle, was found parked in the roadway in the 4000 block of 97th Ave. S.E. The vehicle was processed for evidence after officers received consent from the vehicle’s owner. No evidence was found and the car’s front plate was stolen. The car was subsequently returned to its owner.

ACCIDENT: A car exiting a parking lot from the left turn lane, pulled out onto S.E. 68th St. and was struck by an SUV traveling east. The driver of the SUV said she suspected the first car was traveling too quickly because she didn’t initially see the car and couldn’t stop in time. No injuries were reported.

BURGLARY: While residents of 2200 80th Ave. S.E. were away between 9 a.m. and noon, somebody entered the side door to the garage and knocked over a row of bikes.

BURGLARY: Sometime between Apr. 9 and April 18, a suspect entered an unlocked guest house at a residence in the 2200 block of 60th Ave. S.E. and took several items, totaling $7,000. No damage was done to the guest house.

CAR THEFT: Between 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday, someone stole a Ford Explorer from the driveway of a house in the 4100 block of 94th Ave. S.E.

INFORMATIONAL REPORT: A bicyclist traveling downhill at a high rate of speed, lost control and fell on the pavement in the 7400 block of N. Mercer Way. The rider was transported to the hospital for treatment.

TUESDAY | 22

THEFT: Between 7 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, a gas can and a Honda or Yamaha boat motor were stolen from the dock of a house in the 4000 block of E. Mercer Way.

WEDNESDAY | 23

LOST PROPERTY: An 81-year-old Island woman reported to police that she lost her wallet at QFC. She didn’t notice any fraudulent activity on her charge cards, but cancelled them anyway. Losses were estimated at $42.

BURGLARY: A house in the 4600 block of 89th Ave. S.E. was burglarized between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The homeowner reported the losses at $500,000 with a variety of items stolen, including several rare Chinese coins totaling $500 each and Waterford crystal. Also stolen was a decorative cat tapestry, encased in a wood frame and glass, an ornate jade statue, a Chinese silk screen, a purse pouch with $100 cash, a collection of rare U.S. stamps and many more items. The door from the garage into the residence was damaged and the door that accessed the backyard from the garage also showed signs of damage. This investigation is still open.

BURGLARY: Jewelry in electronic items were stolen from a house in the 6500 block of 81st Ave. S.E. Police reported the incident as a forced residential burglary, occurring between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6:45 p.m.
