Police Report

July 15 INTERNET THEFT: At 11:13 a.m. a caller reported he’d responded to a Craigslist ad for a car, then received an email with an Ebay logo with instructions to send his payment - $4,300 - via Moneygram to an Ebay representative in North Carolina. The caller sent the money, but hasn’t heard back from the Ebay rep.

July 15

INTERNET THEFT: At 11:13 a.m. a caller reported he’d responded to a Craigslist ad for a car, then received an email with an Ebay logo with instructions to send his payment – $4,300 – via Moneygram to an Ebay representative in North Carolina. The caller sent the money, but hasn’t heard back from the Ebay rep.

CAR PROWL: At 6:38 a.m. a caller reported his Volkswagon Passat had been broken into. Someone smashed in the drivers-side window and took about $5 in rolled quarters, a pair of Iphone earbuds and some CDs. The CDs and a plastic quarter-roll wrapper was found in the parking lot and submitted for fingerprints.

CAR PROWL: At 4:57 a.m. a caller reported an car prowl in progress. The caller caught the prowlers after they’d broken into a Saturn and a Toyota. The suspects fled; however, the caller was able to get a valid license plate number from the getaway car. A car stereo was reported missing by the vehicle’s owner.

JULY 18

ACCIDENT: At 2:53 p.m. a 1997 BMW driven by Ruby Marr, 79, collided with a 2007 Lexus driven by Michael Guralnick, 69, at the intersection of S.E. 68th Street and Island Crest Way. According to the police report, Marr likely did not stop at the four-way intersection. No injuries were reported and both cars were towed from the scene.

JULY 19

VEHICLE PROWL: At 7:47 a.m. a resident of the 3800 block of E. Mercer Way reported their BMW was broken into. The driver’s side window was smashed and a fourth generation Ipod and blue North Face backpack were taken sometime between 10:30 p.m. July 18 and 7:45 a.m. July 19.

VEHICLE PROWL: At 12:19 p.m. a resident of the 7200 block of 29th Street reported a bike and car jack missing from his unlocked Mazda.

JULY 20

VEHICLE PROWL: At 5:11 p.m. a Mercer Island man was notified that the Bellevue Police Department found a pair of Serengeti sunglasses, set of golf clubs and golf bag that were taken from his unlocked Saab sometime between July 11 and 16. The Bellevue Police Department recovered the stolen property and arrested the suspect before the victim reported the theft to Mercer Island Police.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: At 11:29 p.m. a resident of the 7600 block of S.E. 22nd Street reported that his mailbox had been “exploded by a firework into three pieces and blown approximately 20 feet into the roadway.” The caller discovered his mailbox after investigating a “loud bang” from the street.
