Police stop runaway from Kansas | Mercer Island Police Blotter

Police identified a 17-year-old male runaway from Kansas after stopping a vehicle for traffic offenses at 10:57 a.m., Nov. 17, in the 8000 block of North Mercer Way. All four occupants of the vehicle were detained, and one of them, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested on a nationwide warrant from Kansas.

Police transported the runaway to the MIPD and seized a gas mask-improvised marijuana smoking device, a pill grinder and a bottle of Mickeys beer.

Nov. 12

Bike accident: A 67-year-old bicyclist crashed at 9:25 a.m. in the 5300 block of East Mercer Way after rounding a hairpin curve and striking a wet patch of leaves. The bicycle slid out from underneath the rider, who hit his head after falling.

Speeding: A vehicle went into a ditch and hit an embankment at 5:46 p.m. in the 9300 block of S.E. 70th Place. The driver, 18, said she was driving a “little fast.” She was cited for speeding too fast for conditions. Her vehicle slid off the road while rounding a curve. No injuries were reported.

Nov. 14

Hit-and-run: A man’s vehicle was struck by another vehicle while he was inside the U.S. Bank between 2:14 and 2:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue S.E. A witness told the man of the incident and described the suspect as a middle-aged woman, “average in height,” in a black full-sized SUV, but the man did not get the witness’s information.

Fraud: A 32-year-old Mercer Island man forged a prescription and “deceitfully obtained” his wife’s prescription medication after 4:30 p.m. in the 7700 block of S.E. 27th Street. The suspect has one count of harassment/domestic violence on record. He was processed and released at the MIPD.

Nov. 15

Fender-bender: A pickup truck backed into the driver side of a parked, unoccupied vehicle at 12 p.m. in the 7600 block of the Sunset Highway.

Assault: A South end Chevron employee reported an incident of possible child abuse that happened after 3 p.m. on Nov. 12 in the 8400 block of S.E. 68th Street. A 56-year-old Kent woman is suspected of abusing her young child.

Nov. 16

Theft: A Mercer Island woman, 50, reported that someone tore her Knox Box from the call box on her electric wrought iron fence at the entrance of her driveway in the 1800 block of 70th Avenue S.E. sometime during the night on Nov. 6. The Knox Box contained a key for accessing the gate. The call box was damaged.

Nov. 17

Disorderly conduct: Police issued a criminal citation to a 51-year-old Mercer Island woman at 7:30 p.m. after responding to a disturbance over parking at The Mercer apartments in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street. The woman spoke abusively to a man who parked in her assigned spot. She parked her car behind the man’s vehicle, blocked him in for 10 minutes and left her car unattended.

Nov. 18

Fraud: A South end Mercer Island woman, 52, reported fraudulent charges on her 17-year-old son’s checking account starting Nov. 16. She suspected that someone stole her son’s identity and credit card information.

Nov. 19

Arrest: Mercer Island police took a 30-year-old Mercer Island man into custody from Tukwila police at 9:16 a.m. on a misdemeanor warrant and booked him into the Issaquah Jail.

Arrest: Police arrested a 41-year-old woman at 8 p.m. in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue S.E. She was driving with a suspended license and had five counts of failing to appear in court. After being cited, she was released.

Nov. 21

Accident: Mercer Island police and fire responded to a five-car collision on the South end in the 6800 block of Island Crest Way around 8 a.m. There were no injuries.

Car prowl: A woman’s purse was stolen from the front seat of her boyfriend’s vehicle sometime between 12 and 12:45 p.m. at West Mercer Elementary in the 4100 block of 81st Avenue S.E. The purse contained a checkbook, debit card and cash. The vehicle’s window was broken.

Assault: Police responded to a physical disturbance and arrested a Mercer Island woman, 45, at 3:53 p.m. at her in-home day care in the 3700 block of 78th Avenue S.E. The woman was intoxicated and had a chef’s kitchen knife. She assaulted her boyfriend, damaged his truck and smashed the passenger mirror. The suspect and victim both had injuries and lacerations. Police booked the woman into the King County Jail. Children and two witnesses were present.
