Several of the Rain City water polo teams recently traveled to Beaverton, Ore. for the 2012 Rose Cup.

Three teams from Rain City participated, with the 18U, 16U and 14U boys teams competing. The teams include players from Mercer Island, Bellevue, Newport and Seattle.

The 18U team started and ended the tournament with wins over Willamette Valley and Bend. In a tough contest against T-Hills, the team moved forward to play a solid game against eventual fourth place finisher Chehalem. The Rain City team lost 9-7, but had a solid defensive effort. The team was led by senior goalie Kenny Trowbridge, and offensively was led by Tim Sherwood, David Rudokas, Bryce Mooney, Sam Peterson, Conrad Shabb and Sebastian Aron. The team ended the tournament with a 13-4 victory over Eugene to take fifth place.

The 16U team started off with a 3-0 run, beating Willamette Valley, Eugene and Lake Oswego. Sunday, the team lost 12-8 to T-Hills, but rebounded in the semi-finals with a victory over Eugene to qualify for a rematch against T-Hills in the title game.

After four quarters of close play, the game was tied 7-7 at the end of regulation, and moved in a shoot-out, which the Rain City team lost 4-3.

Goalie Lamar Hendrikse led the way in the semifinal game, making 12 saves, with Ethan Mclean and Jack Larkin scoring a goal each.

In the finals, Nathan Ives made 13 saves for the team, while Harrison Clarke and Jordan Graham led the defense and Topher Lacrampe, Shawyon Jaffarbhoy, Gabriel Andrews, Chris Merritt and Josh Rehder led the offense.

The Rain City 14U team finished in second place overall, after going 3-0 in round robin play, beating T-Hills A, Bainbridge and T-Hills B.

Nic Lacrampe scored the game winning goal in the semifinals, while Cooper Matson was strong on defense. Other player standouts during the tournament included: Ford Witman, Dane Williams, Lucas Sandaert, Armon Jaffarbhoy, Erik Raisys and Henry Mansfield.

Rain City will travel to the Chehalem Invitational in Newberg, Ore. on May 19.
