The National Weather Services is warning residents of the greater Puget Sound region of the risk of landslides as heavy rain is expected to continue.

Rainfall of up to 1.5 inches, with some areas receiving closer to 3 inches of rain in the last 24 hours as greatly increased the soil moisture, according to the NWS, and up to 2 more inches of rain is expected by late tonight.

“Cumulative rainfall over the last week has soaked soild to the point where the Washington landslide risk levee was moderate,” said the NWS in a special weather statement. “The predicted rainfall could raise the level to high. The higher the risk level, the more numerous the landslides are likely to be.”

Due to the high levels of rainfall, the NWS has also issued urban and small stream flood advisories for most of Western Washington, including King County, along with a wind advisory through 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.
