Shores observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Covenant Living at the Shores held its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance on Jan. 17. The resident-led group Diversity Awareness Partners recognized Larry Snyder (right), a part-time barista on Mercer Island, with its MLK Spirit Award for his ongoing work in fundraising and consciousness-raising for nonprofits in the Seattle area that serve the poor and homeless. Snyder spearheads an annual sock drive for the homeless through Starbucks and recently delivered 6,000 pairs of donated socks to area shelters. In addition, W. Tali Hairston (left), director of community organizing, advocacy and development at the Seattle Presbytery, was the keynote speaker at the event. This is the eighth year for the event, sponsored by the resident group Diversity Awareness Partners. Courtesy photo
