Six teachers in the Mercer Island School District have earned their National Board Certification, the highest level of certification. The district now employs 45 teachers with National Board Certification.

The teachers include Erica Hill, Susan Jobe, Aaron Noble, Danae Burger, Heather McLyman and Julie Hovind.

Only around 4 percent of the teachers in the United States earn the honor, which requires submitting a lengthy portfolio and various other exercises. The process can take up to three years to complete.

“I am grateful to the Mercer Island Schools Foundation, which provides support to teachers in the form of National Board tuition reimbursement and reimbursement for the University of Washington program that offers support for National Board candidates,” said MISD Superintendent Gary Plano.
