Dan Simons, a freshman at Mercer Island High School, was the high-point winner at the 2008 Washington Games Age Group Seattle Open held at Colman Pool in Seattle.

Dan Simons, a freshman at Mercer Island High School, was the high-point winner at the 2008 Washington Games Age Group Seattle Open held at Colman Pool in Seattle.

Simons earned six gold medals in the long-course pool, including the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter individual medley, as well as swimming a leg of the 400-meter freestyle relay and the 400-medley relay. Simons subsequently qualified for the Pacific Northwest Western Zone Championship held in Gresham, Ore.

The Pacific Northwest Team won the Western Zone Champions for the first time in 29 years of Western Zone competition.

Simons swims for the Bellevue Club and the Mercerwood Shore Club (where he broke one of Islander Sean Sussex’ records this last summer). He plans to swim for MIHS.
