Mercer Island resident and Eastside Catholic student Matt Boyd led the No. 1 ranked 3A baseball team (5-0) to two wins, with 12 innings pitched, striking out 20 and walking 2. He gave up just two hits and knocked in the winning run during the 1-0, 8-inning affair against Bainbridge Island, where he pitched a complete game shutout. For the week he was 4-for-6 at the plate with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored. He is currently 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 27Ks, 4 BB and 4 hits for the season.

Boyd starts season well

Emerald City Judo results

The Mercer Island and Emerald City Judo Clubs co-hosted the annual Evergreen State Open Judo Championships this past weekend at the Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club. Over 200 competitors participated from Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, Canada, Idaho and Montana.

The competitors competed by age and weight.
