St. Monica seventh graders win CYO AA championship

St. Monica School’s seventh grade girls basketball team took home the CYO Basketball AA championship with a 24-22 victory over Kirkland’s Holy Family Saturday, Feb. 6 at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle.

St. Monica School’s seventh grade girls basketball team took home the CYO Basketball AA championship with a 24-22 victory over Kirkland’s Holy Family Saturday, Feb. 6 at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle.

The title win wrapped an undefeated season for the team this year, going 7-0 during the regular season.

St. Monica emerged from a conference consisting of 10 teams from around the region, including Seattle, Bellevue and Kirkland.

St. Monica earned a bye before overcoming a team from St. Luke’s in the tournament semifinals.

Both the St. Monica and Holy Family teams were undefeated heading into the championship game.

The girls on St. Monica’s seventh grade team are Molly Moffitt, Mary Moe, Abigail Emert, Kayley Shearer, Anna Ferullo, Carly Lightfoot, Cecilia Chiappone, Grace Riccardi, Lily Triesch, Rachel Holloway, Sophie Lumaco, Beatriz DeLucas, Kate Toomey and Christina Crow. The team is coached by Stan Emert and Mike Triesch.
