‘The Stories That Shape Us’ workshop is postponed

The city of Mercer Island has announced that the originally scheduled Community Conversations event on April 26 has been postponed. The rescheduled date will be announced soon.

“The Stories That Shape Us” will be the topic of the second installment of the series, and the free workshop will be sponsored by the city and presented in partnership with ONE MI, Do the Work MI, the SJCC, Mercer Island Historical Society and the Washington State Jewish Historical Society.

Workshop discussions will focus on the stories of families and the experiences of their elders shaping how people see themselves and how they experience the world. Presenters will delve into how oral history interviewing is different from other types of conversations, strategies for conducting rich and effective interviews, and best practices on recording and archiving oral histories. The workshop will include a pair of interview exercises.
