Donated blood is always needed. A student-sponsored blood drive is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 4400 86th Ave. S.E. Most people can donate but must be at least 18 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. People may donate blood every 56 days. Those ages 16 and 17 may donate with a parent-signed permission slip, and there is no upper age limit.

Sweetheart day

A Valentine tea party just for seniors is set for 2 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 12, at the Community Center at Mercer View. There will be tea, cakes and entertainment featuring a Valentine’s Day trivia contest. Bring your favorite tea cup or tea pot. Call to register: (206) 275-7609. Transportation is available.

A family Valentine’s Day party is from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13, at the Community Center at Mercer View. There will be dancing, refreshments, photos and games. Register by phone, (206) 275-7609, or online at www.myparksandrecreation.com.

Texting for dollars

You can support the Mercer Island High School Band by going to www.schooloftherockcontest.com to check out its music video and vote, either online or by texting “Rock26” to the number 24300. Voters may do this up to 10 times every hour to vote for the MIHS Band to win $10,000.

Holiday

Most federal, state and city offices, banks and Mercer Island public schools will be closed for the Presidents’ Day holiday, Monday, Feb. 16.
