A voter education evening focused on Mercer Island’s two park ballot measures to be decided by voters in the Nov. 4 general election will take place at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Mercer Island Library. There will be presentations both for and against the measures by members of the community. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Luther Burbank Park. SafeRides volunteers needed

Mercer Island SafeRides is a youth-based volunteer program that provides free, safe and confidential rides home to Island teens who find themselves in a risky or unsafe situation and are in need of a safe ride home on Saturday nights. Fabulous Forties Tea is Oct. 11

The Mercer Island Senior Foundation is sponsoring a Fabulous Forties Tea, honoring Island seniors 80 and older, from 2 until 4 p.m., Oct. 11, at the Mercer Island Congregational Church. The 1940s-themed tea will feature local handmade items for sale, a vintage fashion show by Goodwill and a silent auction. The proceeds of the event will go toward a grant to Club24 Seniors, a check-in service for Island seniors. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children under 14. For reservations, call 232-4597.
