Three suspects break into Mercer Island home on 85th Avenue Southeast

No injuries reported.

Three adult male suspects stating that they were police officers kicked in the front door of a Mercer Island home in the early morning of May 24.

After waking to the sound of the door being smashed, one homeowner in the 4000 block of 85th Avenue Southeast confronted the armed suspects, who were not wearing police uniforms, and determined they were not the police, according to the Mercer Island Police Department. After no apparent further conversation, the homeowners immediately locked themselves in a secure room.

Police officers responded to the occupied burglary at about 2 a.m. and were informed that the suspects — who were armed with a possible rifle and two handguns — remained in the home for about 15-30 seconds before exiting and discharging a handgun as they fled the scene.

“Nothing was taken, and no one was hurt,” police said in a press release, later adding that the homeowners didn’t possess a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing and police said they will provide updates to the community as they confirm additional information.
