Two Islanders filed a report of fraud on Jan. 8 after showing up at a house they had rented for vacation in Hawaii to find that the two rooms they had reserved were already occupied. The Island residents had booked the two rooms over Craigslist. The people they found in the house said that they lived there. The victims have so far been unable to claim a refund.

The Island residents had booked the two rooms over Craigslist. The people they found in the house said that they lived there. The victims have so far been unable to claim a refund.

An woman filed a report of fraud on Jan. 6, stating that she had received an unwarranted bill for $53.85 in services by an online postage company. Her credit card had been used to pay for the services on Sept. 13. The victim had cancelled her credit card in September after noticing other suspicious activities.

Traffic

A three-car collision occurred on 92nd Ave S.E. on Jan. 7. According to the incident report, two cars stopped for a pedestrian who was crossing the street. A third vehicle, unable to stop in time, hit the car directly ahead, forcing it into the next car. The drivers left the scene before an officer arrived. No injuries were reported.

Theft

An Island resident’s wallet was stolen from an Albertson’s shopping cart on Jan. 9. The leather wallet contained $30 in cash and a few credit/debit cards. The thief attempted to purchase goods with one of the cards.

Two people living in The Carlton condominium building on 76th Ave S.E. reported that their cars had been prowled between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Jan. 5. The first victim went out to her car at approximately 2 p.m. and found the passenger side window smashed and $6,115 in property missing. Police found a commercial brand Master lock on the passenger seat, which they obtained as evidence. The cost of repairing the smashed window is estimated at $300.

The second victim said he had parked his vehicle overnight in the secure parking garage and when he returned to his car the next day he found the driver-side window broken out. His GPS unit had been stolen. Another woman living in The Carlton reported that her delivered Fedex package, containing two magazines, was opened some time around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 5. She found the opened package at her door step in the common area of the condominium with the magazines thrown aside.

A woman living in the 4700 block of East Mercer Way reported a car prowl on Jan. 6. According to the incident report, the woman went out to her vehicle at approximately 5 p.m. on Jan. 4 and noticed that the interior had been rummaged through. A GPS system that had been attached to the windshield was missing, along with a computer hard drive and the garage door opener. The vehicle had been left unlocked. Total value of the stolen items is $3,825.

A man living in the 9600 block of S.E. 72nd Street reported $1,460 in stolen goods from two of his vehicles on Jan. 6. Both cars had been left unlocked at the victim’s residence.

A man living in the 4000 block of East Mercer Way reported on Jan. 6 that two vehicles, parked unlocked in his driveway, had been prowled. A pair of sunglasses and cell phone chargers were stolen.

An Island resident reported on Jan. 6 that somebody had attempted to steal a small trolling motor from the back of his boat in the 6500 block of S.E. 26th Street. The man found that the fuel line and battery cable of his boat had been cut.
