U12 Little League face Eastlake; U11s end 2-2

After a strong start, the Mercer Island 11-year-old All-Stars completed their run 2-2, following a 10-4 defeat to Snoqualmie Valley and a 9-7 loss to Kirkland American. For the tournament, Mercer Island was led by the bats of Andrew Pickles (.600 batting average, .733 on-base percentage, 1.100 slugging percentage), Michael Petrie (.538 BA, .647 OBP), and Eric Kim (.500 BA, .647 OBP). Brenden Yan led the team with seven RBIs while Jackson Caputo added a team-high six walks and a .667 OBP. As a team, MI batted .377 and scored 42 runs in four games.

The Mercer Island Majors (11-12) baseball All-Stars notched easy opening-round wins this weekend, 22-0 over Bellevue East Little League, and 16-1 against Sammamish American, to set up a showdown tonight at 6 p.m. against the two-time defending state champions from Eastlake Little League at Hidden Valley Park in Bellevue. William Mansfield earned the win on Saturday while striking out 11 Bellevue East batters in a one-hit shutout, and also went 3 for 4 at the plate, including a titanic three-run home run. Keegan Ogard and Brandon Lawler combined for 10 more strikeouts against Sammamish, and David Emanuels highlighted an eight-run first inning with a grand slam home run. Through two games, the Islanders’ pitchers have allowed just four hits and recorded 21 out of 24 outs by strikeout. Offensively, Josh Stenberg leads the Islander hitters with an .800 batting average, followed by Emanuels and Max Hibbert at .667. Mansfield leads with 11 runs batted in, and Lawler with two home runs.
