The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) announced a three-year agreement with MaxPreps to be the Association’s “Official Digital Media Partner and Statistician.”

The WIAA and MaxPreps will provide all member high schools with a streamlined process to submit information for important WIAA initiatives and state tournament publications to increase accuracy, visibility, and positive promotion of high school sports information. Additionally, the information will allow the WIAA to devote a portion of its website to regular-season schedules, scores and standings, which will also be featured on MaxPreps.com.

“This partnership keeps the WIAA at the forefront of technology and aligns it with other State Associations,” WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese said in a press release. “Member schools, student-athletes and high school sports enthusiasts will have the luxury of one centralized location for statewide schedules, scores and standings.”

“MaxPreps is thrilled to partner with the WIAA and establish a streamlined data entry process for all member schools,” said Andy Beal, president and founder of MaxPreps, in a press release. “High school sports are important to communities and most importantly young people throughout the United States. The WIAA is a clear leader in the positive growth of high school athletics and MaxPreps is honored to work with the WIAA to serve their membership.”

During the first year of the partnership, MaxPreps will provide regular-season and post-season data for baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball and volleyball. After the first year, the WIAA and MaxPreps will explore opportunities to expand in coverage and in other athletics and activities.

Mercer Island athletics program  tops state rankings

In its annual MaxPreps Cup competition ranking the best prep sports programs in the country, MaxPreps recognized Mercer Island as the top-ranking prep sports program in the state of Washington for 2014.

Mercer Island earned a state-best score of 535 in the MaxPreps Cup rankings, with its score based on a system of calculations that awarded points for winning or participating in state championship games. In some cases sectional, regional or sub-state championship games were used if schools were not involved at the state level. Points were also awarded based on type of sport, size of state and size of school. Last year, Mercer Island boasted state champions in volleyball, girls and boys swimming and girls and boys tennis.

Tacoma’s Bellarmine Prep was Washington’s runner-up with a score of 398. Rounding out Washington’s top five were Puyallup, Colton and Kamiakin.
