E. Jaye Thompson

Jaye Thompson, of Mercer Island, died suddenly on Feb. 9, 2009. He was born in Minnesota on Feb. 20, 1919 and moved at age 16 to Seattle, where he attended Broadway High School.

On May 22, 1944, Mr. Thompson married Florence, the love of his life. One month later, he was deployed to the Pacific Theater, where he was an Advance Scout with the U.S. Army Infantry. He received many honors and citations, one of which was the Presidential Citation to the 96th Infantry Division for extraordinary heroism in military operations against an armed enemy, 1944-1945.

Mr. Thompson returned to Florence and Seattle, and became actively dedicated to organizations in which he believed. He served as Master of the Masonic Lodge on Mercer Island for five one-year terms and a member of VFW Post 5760. He had a keen awareness of community. Occupational pursuits were mechanical engineering, specializing in material handling and home remodeling.

Mr. Thompson’s brand of humor, great smile, loyal friendship and willingness to always lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors will be deeply missed.
