MARTHA BANAS SHAW

October 27, 1922 ~ January 23, 2017

Martha Shaw was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Her family included eight brothers and sisters. She had fond memories of growing up with friends and her family. Her mother – Mary – was the foundation for her young life.

Martha meet Don Shaw while Don was participating in a Westinghouse training program in Sharon, Pennsylvania. After a brief courtship, they wed and moved west to Seattle, Washington to begin their life together.

Martha and Don Shaw started a family shortly after moving west. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Mercer Island. While living on Mercer Island they have been active members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Martha enjoyed cooking and providing a nurturing household for her family. Martha and Don Shaw enjoyed many social and cultural events in the Seattle area together.

Martha and Don Shaw were married 66 years, before Don’s passing in 2015. Martha and Don had the opportunity to take numerous trips overseas together to destinations in Europe, New Zealand and the South Pacific, in addition to destinations in the United States and Canada. They also spent many wonderful days on their property on Orcas Island.

Martha passed away in her sleep on January 23, 2017, her daughter – Claudia and granddaughter – Katie, were at her side. Her two children – Claudia and Todd (LeAnn) — in addition to her three grandchildren – Kathryn, David and Matthew, survive Martha.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday February 10th at – Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 4400 86th Avenue SE, Mercer Island, WA 98040.
