Wallace Duane Maier | Obituary

April 8, 1932- March 30, 2025

Mercer Island Washington-Wallace Maier passed away on March 30, 2025 at Covenant Living at the Shores on Mercer Island surrounded by his family.

Wally was born in Linton, North Dakota on April 8, 1932 to Charles and Mathilda Maier. He was the second youngest of thirteen children, all his siblings having proceeded him in death. Wally grew up in North Dakota, after high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving his country for four years stationed at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Arizona. Wally married Luella Wagner on August 17, 1952 in Linton, North Dakota. They have two children. Son Douglas (Roberta) Maier, grandchild Lisa (Eliott) Willhite, Great grandchildren: Nathan, Connor and Ella Willhite. Daughter Melinda (Sam) LeClercq, grandchildren Cody Hall, Kristina Hall.

Wally and family lived in North Dakota where he operated a propane distributorship until 1968. The Maier family relocated to Western Washington residing in Lynden then Bellingham. Wally owned and operated State Street Shell in Bellingham where his son Douglas worked alongside him. He then went on to be a Bus Driver for Whatcom Transportation Authority where he worked for twenty-five years until his retirement. In retirement Wally and Luella moved to Covenant Shores on Mercer Island where he lived until his passing.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, May 9th, 3pm at Covenant Living at the Shores 9107 Fortuna Dr. Mercer Island, WA. 98040 in the fellowship hall.
