Boyd signs with San Francisco Giants

After playing seven seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Mercer Island native Matt Boyd signed a one-year, $5.2 million contract on March 20 to pitch for the San Francisco Giants, according to mlb.com. Here the southpaw visits with Greg Asimakoupoulos, his former pastor at Evergreen Covenant Church on the Island. Boyd, a distant relative of Hall of Famer Bob Feller, previously played with the Toronto Blue Jays. The 31-year-old underwent flexor-tendon surgery in his left forearm last September and aims to return to the mound in June, the report noted. Photo courtesy of Greg Asimakoupoulos
