Islander Middle School students learn rugby from Serevi Rugby

Students at Islander Middle School had a chance to learn the game of rugby last week from some of the best players in the business. The school was host to Serevi Rugby for a two-day demonstration on the sport.

Students at Islander Middle School had a chance to learn the game of rugby last week from some of the best players in the business. The school was host to Serevi Rugby for a two-day demonstration on the sport.

During their PE period, students learn the basics of the game from the team of coaches at Serevi, including Waisale Serevi, the Hall of Famer from Fiji and Ben Gollings, former English national player, Colin Moy, Carly MacKinnon and Tyler Siceloff.

Several Island families participate in the various teams and camps Servei offers. Servei will be offering a summer camp in Bellevue July 29 through Aug. 2 at Robinswood Park. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is $200 per student. The camp is for young athletes and experience with rugby is not required. The camp will be coached by Justin Fitzpatrick, the collegiate national team coach, Matthew Trouville, a current OPSB captain and Pate Tuilevuka, a former USA Eagle team member.
