Islanders beat Sammamish on the gridiron
Samuel Gilchrist notched a pair of epic touchdowns and Samir Lumba nailed the game-winning field goal in Mercer Island’s 17-15 football victory over Sammamish on March 26.
Gilchrist snagged a pass from Eli Fahey for a 69-yard touchdown and added an 87-yard kickoff return to his score sheet for the night.
Lumba’s 27-yard field goal completed the comeback for the locals, who rebounded from a 15-8 deficit to notch the victory.
Jack Rowe added a two-point conversion run.
Mercer Island (2-1) will complete its season with a home game against Bellevue at 7 p.m. April 2.
